This is a Celestron NexStar 114 GT Telescope.
This item is complete in original packaging.
It has been opened, and used only once - then put back into its box!
It is a GT telescope, where the GT stands for "Go To" as this telescope has computerized controls to automatically Go To locations of interest!
This 114mm (4.5") telescope is on a motorized mount with a computerized hand control. It is easy to travel, with a battery pack for power using standard AA batteries. The tripod legs contract to 27" and extend to 51". It comes complete with everything including the original packaging and instruction manual and with the original un-used product registration form.

The NexStar 114 telescope comes with a hand control that allows you to control the scope. The hand control plugs into the telescope mounting base. The hand controller is really a computerized controller that has an embedded 4000 object data base. You use the buttons on the controller to input your location, the time, and to align the scope. Then you can use the NexStar's built-in Sky Tour feature, which commands the NexStar to find the most interesting objects in the sky and the telescope automatically moves to each location with an incredible 4 deg / second slew rate.
You can also use your computer to control the telescope. The hand controller has an RJ11 modular "Phone Jack" (like a standard telephone)...but instead of telephone signals, it is a serial port like on a computer. You can control the NexStar telescope with a computer via this PC serial port on the hand control and using an optional RS-232 cable. Once connected, the NexStar can be controlled using popular astronomy software programs. The included instructional manual details the communication protocol. Note to connect this to your computer, your computer needs to have a serial port or you may need a USB-to-Serial converter.
Although the computer serial cable is optional, you could actually build the cable yourself. It is only an RJ11 connector on one end and a DB9F connector on the other end. Only three signals are used (Transmit, Receive, Ground). The NexStar instruction manual provides the pinout for the RJ11. The pinout for the computer is standard for all computers. You can get all you need to make this cable from Radio Shack for not very much money.

This telescope was purchased a year or so ago to "see the stars". We took it out of the box used it only once. It was never used again. It is a very good telescope, we just don't have the time to make good use of it and decided it is time to sell and let someone else enjoy and learn.
It is in its original package with all the original items.
It really is in "like new" condition because it has barely been used.
It was actually purchased by my father who decided he wated to see the
planets....his fascination only lasted one night when he exclaimed....It's
late and I'm going to bed...so the astronomy bug did not last very long with
him as his motto of early to bed and early to rise does not give much night
time to see the stars!
