History of this Item:

This item is hand built from a kit more than 40 years ago!.  It has always been a good unit and worked well.  I am not a dealer for this equipment, nor a surplus blow-out seller.  I am an electrical engineer who has used this reliable piece of equipment for many years.  It is time to pass the knowledge that can be gained from this instrument to a deserving individual who will truly appreciate its historical significance, and hopefully can use it to expand their own personal knowledge of electronics.

Condition and Specifications:

This is not some modern sissy solid-state plastic piece of junk  instrument.  The EICO 377 is the real deal and a working piece of history.  Hand built from a kit a few years back (actually about 40 years ago), this heavy-duty all metal unit is made the way electronics use to be made.  Tubes, baby....That's what this piece of electronics marvel is all about.  No wimpy circuit boards here....Point-to-Point wire and solder.  No small surface-mount components or integrated circuits either.  Instead, inside you'll find glowing Vacuum Tubes, Large Chunky Capacitors, Resistors the size of your finger that you can actually read the color codes and power-hungry incandescent lamps.  Not for the faint of heart, this piece of Americana Electronics is now more a piece of "Art" and history than just mere electronics. 

Today, everyone seems concerned about "Green" environmentally friendly low-power electronics.  The only thing Green about this unit, is how "Green with Envy" your friends will be when they see you have it, and they don't.

Does this unit actually work....You bet it does!

Plug this unit into the wall, turn on the power switch and watch the glow of the front panel lamp come on.  Connect it up to an oscilloscope and it works just fine displaying both Sine and Square Waves.  How accurate is it?   Well if your looking to buy this unit for accuracy - then there is nothing to see here, just move along...cause you're looking at this for the wrong reason.  I did not measure how accurate it is, nor do I care.  But for those who do care, according to the manual, the "Calibration Accuracy" is +/-3% or 1 c.p.s (whichever is greater) and the "Frequency Response" is +/-1.5db, 60 c.p.s to 150Kc.  On the oscilloscope, the sine wave looked like a nice sine wave, and the square wave looked good too!

This unit is for someone who appreciates "Old School" techniques and who really wants to own a working vintage piece of electronics.  If you really want to understand how oscillating circuits work, then this is for you.....That's the whole idea about building and using these kit-based instruments.  It is a "Learn by Doing" hands on approach.  Take apart a modern oscillator and there's not a whole lot to see except a few surface-mount integrated circuits on a printed circuit board - not very exciting.  Look at the previous pictures...with the EICO 377 there is a great opportunity to tinker and learn.....And it Just Looks Cool !!!

Put a clear Plexiglass cover on this unit and make it a showpiece of your living room.  Retro is in, and it gets no better than American 1950's technology electronics!

I see other, similar units on ebay without the full set of documentation  (But Wait! Remember with this unit you not only get the EICO Model 377 Audio Generator for Sine and Square Waves, you also get the "Original" documents including Instruction Manual, Construction Manual, Service Policy, Warranty Repair Agents list and Out-of Warranty Repair Agents list).

I see other, similar units on ebay by sellers who claim they "know nothing about it" but are willing to pass their knowledge and this product on to you!  Nothing comes from nothing....nothing ever could!

I see other, similar units on ebay that just look like they were junked and not taken care of.  The EICO Model 377 offered here looks like the day it was built!

I'm not going to insult the collectors with a starting price that is just too low, nor scare away potential buyers with a price that is too high.  I am starting this bid at a fair price for an excellent opportunity for some lucky bidder to own a truly great piece of working electronics this is both history and art.  Think of that special someone who would like to have this as a present!
