Description
The Chemical Verification is used to verify that the OmegaMeter Inonic Contamination tester is working correctly.
Normally, the OmegaMeter measures contamination from a circuit board. But how do you know if the measurement is correct? The Chemical Verification test is used to verify that the machine is actually working correctly.
Instead of using a circuit board and measuring the contamination, the Chemical Verification test uses a known quantity of contamination. The source of the contamination is the "#3 Standardizing Solution" and the known quantity is 5ml.
As part of the Chemical Verification, the Specific Gravity and Temperature of the solution is measured to determine the concentration of IPA. If the concentration is not 75%, then you must make it 75% by following the procedures in the OmegaMeters user's guide
Once the IPA is 75%, then the Chemical Verification test continues. The rest of the test is just like testing a circuit board. But instead of a circuit board, the "#3 Standardizing Solution" is used.
- The Test Solution is "Cleaned" to a high lever
- For Example: 45 MegaOhm-cm for a 600-SMD
- The test cell is then filled with a set quantity of Test Solution
- For Example: 5000ml for a 600-SMD
- Then instead of a circuit board, 5ml of "#3 Standardizing Solution" is put into the Test Cell.
- Normally use a Pipette or Dispensing Syringe (pn: 0301199) to accurately measure 5ml.
- The test runs for 5 minutes.
At the end of the test, based upon a volume of 5000ml of Test Solution (75%IPA), and 5ml of "#3 Standardizing Solution", the machine should measure and calculate the total contamination to be within the expected range of 3.4 to 3.9 ug for the OmegaMeter 600. This verifies that the machine is working correctly.
The reason for the "#3 Standardizing Solution" is that you need some sort of known contamination for the machine to measure. Since the idea is to verify that the machine is working correctly, the only way to do this is to have it measure something that you already know the contamination. The #3SS is that known contamination. The machine does not know what it is testing, but you do. If the machine comes up with the right answer (between 3.4 to 3.9 ug) then you know it is working correctly. If it comes close, but not within the range, then test it again as your 5000ml or 5ml measurements may be off. If the result is really far off, then the machine is not working correctly.
How often do you have to perform this verification? Depends upon how often you use the machine and if your results seem correct. Probably once a month is more than enough. This test is just to verify that all is working good.
